PgmEdit - Sessions

PgmEdit home

Sessions (sometimes called "Projects") can be used to save and restore all PgmEdit settings for editing any number of different projects, such as program source code, web pages, email text, data tables, notes, etc.

Each session consists of the Session name, the Session folder (the directory/folder path name of the project files), and all PgmEdit settings for the project: Files to edit, Bookmarks, Option Settings (font, date, margins, tab spacing), View options, Color Settings, custom shortcuts, and search history lists.

For example:

1) Session "Edit C code" could point to a directory of 25 C files, have Tab spacing of 4 characters, Courier New 10pt font, and have a Red/Blue/Green color scheme.

2) Session "Web HTML" could point to a directory of 42 HTML files, have a Tab spacing of 3 characters, Lucida Console 9pt font, and have an Orange, Purple and Brown color scheme.

Sessions can be Created, Copied, Renamed, Edited, Opened, or Deleted.

For each of these functions, open the Sessions dialog (select File/Sessions or click on the left-most toolbar icon ("Home" icon)),  and follow the steps in Sections 1-6 below:

See example: Session Dialog screenshot

Notes - When the Sessions dialog is opened, the current session (if any) is selected in the Sessions list and its name is shown in the dialog title bar.  The current Session name (if any) is also displayed in the PgmEdit title bar.

1.  Create Session

A new session can be created either from the currently-open PgmEdit settings (file list, colors, bookmarks, etc), or by opening another session before proceeding.

To Create the new session:  1. Edit/enter a unique Session Name.  2. Edit or browse/select the Session Folder path name.   3. Click the Save button.  This will copy the currently-open PgmEdit settings to the new session, and add the name of the new session to the list of sessions in the Sessions dialog.

The session can then be opened and customized: Modify the file list, colors, bookmarks, etc.

2.  Copy Session

To Copy an existing session:  Select the session to be copied, Open that session, enter a unique Session Name, modify the Session Folder path name as required, and then click the Save button.

3.  Rename Session

To Rename a session:
1. Open a Session dialog
2. Select the session to be renamed and Click the Open button
3. Re-open the Session dialog
4. Enter a unique new Session Name and Click the Save button

Then (optionally) select the old Session name and click the Delete button.

4.  Edit Current-Session Name and/or Session Folder

To Edit the currently-Open session:  Edit the Session Name and/or the Session Folder, and then click the Save button.
Tip:  If the Session Name is changed (other than a change in Case), a new session will be created.

5.  Open Session

To Open a session:  Select the session from the "Sessions" list and then click on the Open button (or double-click the Session, or press the Enter key).  PgmEdit will close and then restart with the selected session settings.

6.  Delete Session

To Delete a session:  Select the session from the "Sessions" list and then click on the Delete button.
Note (C:Drive Install only):  Deleted Sessions are sent to the Recycle Bin and can be restored.  Recycle-Bin restored sessions are visible once the Sessions dialog is reopened.
